About Becca Hewes

I am a yoga teacher and author. My book, 'Teaching Yoga: Creative Cueing for Safer Mixed Level Classes,' is based on my 20 years of teaching experience and the yoga teacher training curriculum I developed. Although I no longer teach the RYT200 program, I still enjoy creating continuing education resources for other teachers. I am working on a second book and the launch of a blog full of resources and support. If you want to read more, then see my full bio below.

My Credentials:

I've been working for myself successfully since 1993. Being an entrepreneur is in my blood, as I grew up with two parents who both ran their own businesses. After working in the computer service industry right out of college, I stepped out on my own to create a self-publishing company. I published a monthly newsletter and books for the amateur radio hobby market. As the business grew, I developed products for this niche market, and we shipped all over the world.

When my husband and I moved to Norman with our children in 2002, I discovered yoga and loved it. Within a few years, I was teaching and wanted to create a yoga studio where I could share my love of the practice. In 2005, I opened Yogalife near the University of Oklahoma, and the studio became a popular center for the community. As yoga exploded in Oklahoma, the need for more teachers became clear, and I launched Yogalife teacher training in 2008. The yoga school became the largest training in the state, and we graduated 200 teachers over 13 years.

In 2017, I realized that more and more of the new students arriving at the studio were starting yoga on YouTube. It was clear I needed to offer videos to retain students. I reached out to my staff to see who wanted to make videos, and we worked for months creating enough content to launch a subscription video site. Our in-person students at the time loved the site, and it gained traction quickly. The site continues to serve my online students, and I’ve maintained clients who moved away from Norman. I often recommend to other teachers to consider launching their own video sites or offerings, as it is a consistent revenue stream that your students will love.

Running a yoga studio is at least a 50-hour-a-week job, and although I loved it and was happy to create the space for all those years, I realized I wanted more time for my family and my writing. I published a book in 2021 titled Teaching Yoga: Creative Cueing for Safer Mixed Level Classes, and I am now working on my second book.

If you need support with your projects, then please feel free to reach out. I am here to help!
